Diecast Review: ModelCar Group Niki Lauda Ferrari 312T2 1:18 scale
So Max chalks up a back to back win at Zandvoort! While the 2022 Dutch GP circuit isn’t as raw as it old layout, it had some great winners in the late 70’s and early 80’s including the wily Niki Lauda in the beautiful flat v12 Ferrari 312T2 in 1977. If you’re a diecast collector looking for the 312T2 in 1:18 scale, you were previously limited to the expensive (and now rare) highly detailed Exoto 1:18 312T2 or if you were lucky enough to grab the recent BBR 1:18 model.
Nowadays the 312T2 in 1:18 scale is also available from GP Replicas, but again it’s not cheap. At the lower more affordable price point, Model Car Group (MCG) have released a series of 1:18 scale heritage F1 diecast models including the Lauda 312T2 Dutch GP car, along with the Prost McLaren Mp4/2B, Lotus 79 and Tyrrell 006.
While lacking the fine detailing of the Exoto, BBR and GP Replicas models, this MCG model is still a decent rendition.
It’s cardboard packaging does come with a display window but the box height seems to be a bit higher than it needs to be.
The MCG 1:18 F1 models all have driver figures, although they are very basic figurines. MCG have also produced the 312T2 Reutemann 1977 Japanese GP race car too in 1:18 scale.
