2024 – Top F1 trading card sales

Happy new year to all readers! It’s probably no surprise that trading card values tend to reflect the current economic mood (here’s hoping 2025 brings better times for everyone).

In 2024, F1 card resale values have definitely dropped from 2023 and previous years. Flat consumer budgets and additional new season card set releases by Topps have continued to put downward pressure on resale values for rarer cards.

In the over USD$10k sales, as expected its the Topps Dynasty, 2020 Topps Chrome and 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire rare parallels of Max and Lewis that dominate the high value transactions.

1. Max Verstappen – 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Padparadcha – $USD195,200 & $USD173,240

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Padparadscha Verstappen

Max’s 2020 Chrome Sapphire Padparadscha (1/1) graded PSA9, fetched USD$195k ($160k+buyer premium) at Goldin auction in January this year. It appears to have been resold again on Goldin auction this month (December) but at a reduced price of $USD173k ($142k + buyer premium) – so for 11% less after 12 months.

2. Max Verstappen – 2020 Topps Chrome Red Refractor Auto – $USD61,000

The PSA9 graded red refractor of Max’s Topps Chrome 2020 driver portrait autograph card just sold for $USD61,000 ($50K + buyer premium) at auction in December on Goldin.

This same card was previously sold on Goldin back in June 2022 for USD90,000 ($75k + buyer premium) which gives you a bit of an indication of how the rarer 2020 Chrome F1 card values have changed in the last few years.

3. Charles Leclerc – 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Red Refractor – $USD43,920

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Leclerc SP Red Refractor

A short print image variation of Charles’ 2020 Chrome Sapphire Red Refractor graded PSA9 scored $USD43,920 ($USD36,600 + buyer premium) at Goldin auction in September.

4. Max Verstappen – 2021 Topps Chrome Autograph Superfractor – $USD37,820

2021 Topps Chrome Verstappen Superfractor

Max’s 2021 Chrome portrait autograph superfractor (1/1) card graded at PSA9, fetched $USD37,820 ($US31,000 + buyer premium) at Goldin auction in June this year.

Max’s 2020 Chrome gold superfractor fetched $USD360k in 2023. Even with a year’s gap and lower 2024 resale values, this still gives you a useful indicator of the relative difference in value between rare 2020 & 2021 Chrome F1 cards.

5. Lewis Hamilton – 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Red Refractor – $USD31,720

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Lewis Red Refractor

Lewis’ 2020 Chrome Sapphire Red Refractor (1/5) graded PSA7 scored $USD31,720 ($26k + buyer premium) at Goldin auction in November.

Lewis’ purple refractor (#9/10) in the same 2020 Chrome Sapphire collection sold for $USD19,520 at Goldin auction in March.

6. George Russell – 2020 Topps Chrome Autograph Superfractor – $USD31,720

2020 Topps Chrome Russell Auto Superfractor

George Russell’s 2020 Chrome driver portrait autograph superfractor also fetched $USD31,720 ($26k + buyer premium) at Goldin auction in November.

George’s 2020 driver portrait card is his official Topps Chrome rookie card (alongside Lando and Alex that same year).

7. Max Verstappen – 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Red Refractor – $USD24,400

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Verstappen Red Refractor

The red refractor short print image variation of Max’s 2020 Chrome Sapphire driver portrait fetched $USD24,400 ($US20k + buyer premium) at Goldin auction in December.

8. George Russell – 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Padparadcha #192 – $USD15,860

The Padparadscha Chrome Sapphire of George Russell’s helmeted card #192 sold for $US15,860 (USD$13k + buyer premium) at Goldin auction in November.

2020 Topps Chrome Lewis Orange Refractor

Lewis’ 2020 Chrome orange refractor (#10/25) autograph portrait card went for $USD14,866 at November ebay auction.

10. Lewis Hamilton – 2020 Topps Chrome Superfractor #142 – $USD12,600

2020 Topps Chrome Lewis Superfractor

The superfractor of Lewis’ 2019 Grand Prix victory card (#142) was grabbed for $USD12,600 best offer price on ebay in December.

11. Sebastian Vettel – 2020 Topps Dynasty Patch Autograph – $USD10,000

2020 Topps Dynasty Vettel suit patch auto

Is Seb Vettel still popular despite his retirement? Well, his 2020 Topps Dynasty patch autograph (#2/4) sold for $USD10k at ebay buy now in October. Is a zip patch worth more than a Ferrari sponsor red overall patch? hard to say…

In the sub-$10k range, there are a few interesting sales.

Liam Lawson – 2021 Topps Chrome Superfractor Auto card – $USD6,000

As Liam fans know, although he’s driven in F1 during 2023 and 2024 seasons, he’s yet to be given an official Topps F1 rookie card because he’s always driven outside Topp’s driver deadline window in each year. The superfractor autograph card of his F2 rookie driver portrait card from the 2021 Topps Chrome set sold in September on ebay for best offer price of USD$6000.

Oscar Piastri – 2023 Topps Chrome Red Futuro signature card – $USD5,351

The 2023 Topps Chrome collection introduced the new Futuro insert cards featuring young gun drivers. There are 10 cards in the Futuro insert set including Oscar Piastri, Logan Sargeant, Oliver Bearman, Nyck DeVries, Theo Pourchaire, Jack Doohan, Fred Vesti, Denis Hauger, Ayuma Awasa and Ralph Boschung.

A PSA7 graded Oscar Piastri red parallel Futuro card sold on ebay for auction price of $USD5,351.

Ayrton Senna –  1987 Panini Supersport #41 – USD$2,300

A PSA10 graded 1987 Panini UK Supersport Ayrton Senna base card (#41) has sold for $USD2,300 best offer price on ebay in October.

Topps Now F1 cards

Aside from Chrome, do the Topps Now F1 cards released during the season have any collector value? Well, you generally need to look for the gold (1/1) and blue (1/10) parallels.

Alex Albon 100GPs gold parallel – $USD900

Alex Albon celebrated his 100th GP earlier this year and the gold parallel of the Topps Now card to celebrate this was picked up for USD$900 on ebay in December.

Franco Colapinto rookie F1 debut blue parallel – $USD599

Franco F1 rookie Topps Now blue parallel (#3/10) was nabbed for $USD599 in November on ebay. The print run for this card was only 2,399 – although Franco is not yet back on the grid in 2025, he is most likely to get a berth somewhere soon. Suspect Franco’s rookie card values will fair better than Nyck de Vries Topps Now rookie card.

Max and Lewis 2021 Abu Dhabi (/99) – $USD401

The most popular Topps F1 Now card to date has been the 2021 Max v Lewis Abu Dhabi GP #78 card. The #44/99 parallel card recently went for $USD401 at ebay auction in November.

Collectors will recall the gold parallel of this card setting a sale record for $USD366k several years ago.

Topps Turbo Attax F1 cards

The recent inclusion of serial numbered parallel cards in their entry level Turbo Attax F1 series, has given some of the rarer cards in this collection increased collector interest. In the past it was only the limited edition cards that could command prices higher than $10, now Turbo Attax F1 cards feature single gold parallels that are their equivalent of rare superfractors in Topps Chrome. Also for 2024 F1 Turbo Attax, Michael Schumacher relic cards (with driver overall patches) can be found in limited Mega tin boxes.

Oscar Piastri – 2024 Topps Turbo Attax F1, Signature Style Gold Parallel – $A882

While they don’t visually look anywhere near as stunning as Chrome superfractor cards, gold parallel Turbo Attax F1 cards are still basically one of a kind (1 of 1) cards.

This Oscar Piastri gold Signature Style card sold at ebay auction for AUD882 in September.

A Lewis Hamilton Signature Style blue parallel (/299) also recently sold for AUD249 on ebay buy now price in October.

As the 2024 Topps Turbo Attax is relatively new, it will take some time for other parallel cards to be tested on the market, so it will be interesting to see. Recent sales of Signature Style cards from the 2022 and 2023 Turbo Attax F1 sets aren’t particularly high but they were only released as base cards without parallels so we’ll have to see if how the 2024 Turbo Attax cards perform (as they have a much bigger base of collectors compared to Chrome and Chrome Sapphire cards).

Michael Schumacher  – 2024 Topps Turbo Attax F1, Legend relic card -£300

A limited number of red “race used” driver patch cards of Michael Schumacher Legend cards are available in this year’s Turbo Attax F1 collection but only can be pulled from a lucky Five Fold Mega-tin. A few of these have recently been sold on ebay ranging from $USD200-$USD300.

Max Verstappen – 2020 Topps Turbo Attax F1 – USD298

Those who dismiss the value of the first 2020 Turbo Attax card set might be surprised that PSA9 graded base cards for Max have sold on ebay for $USD298. No doubt the PSA grading has a lot to do this the price and maybe its either a diehard Max fan or someone with a very long term investment view.

Max Verstappen – 2023 Topps Turbo Attax F1 Diamond Limited Edition – USD103

Max’s 2023 Turbo Attax LE27D is a one off limited edition release for the Dutch GP

Topps makes one off exclusive limited edition Turbo Attax cards. I believe at the 2023 Dutch GP, they released a limited edition Diamond card LE27D which you can find for sale on ebay and other online marketplaces for quite high asking prices.

An ungraded LE27D was sold on ebay auction for $USD103 in October.
