Recent F1 Minichamps, Spark and Exoto model sales on eBay
I get regular email from readers about potential resale values of various F1 model cars. I’m not a diecast retailer or seller but I usually tell people that the online marketplaces like eBay are a good indicator of second hand market values. I thought it would be useful to try to post recent eBay high value final re-sale prices of the more popular Minichamps and Spark F1 models as a quick reference guide for readers and collectors.
I’m still trying to learn if I can better format the tables so bear with me.
2020: These are some diecast sales on ebay in 2020
2017: Here are a few interesting ebay resales in 2017
2016:
The table below shows some high value ebay resales in the 2nd half of 2016. Older Minichamps resale values are down probably due to new re-releases and a quieter secondary market. TV audiences for F1 have generally declined too, so I think the fanbase (and new collectors) have also dropped.
As far as diecasts are concerned, Max Verstappen is the new Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. The values of his STR10, STR11 and RB12 model cars are clearly top of the pile. Surprising that Lewis Hamilton cars don’t fetch the same values.
Most of the Minichamps 1:18 cars have lower resale values probably with the exception of Jenson Button’s 2009 Brawn BGP001. Like a lot of Brawn GP merchandise which is now very hard to find at reasonable prices, the BGP001 is able to fetch good prices in the collector’s market.
Below are some high values sales on ebay during 2015. Observations:
- Max Verstappen. Even in his maiden season, making his presence felt in diecast collectors market just like his results on the track.
- Minichamps Fittipaldi McLaren M23 and Andretti Lotus 79 still fetching good re-sale values. Minichamps re-release of these models will likely impact, so now is the time to sell if you want to lighten your collection.
Below is a table of high value sales on eBay during 2014. I tried to capture the actual currency as a general guide but please do your own checks or research. Some observations:
- Senna Minichamps models are consistently improving in value. The 1:12 and 1:18 scale Lotus 97T usually fetches the best prices and seems to be more valuable than the McLaren Hondas or the Williams FW16. Models with Marlboro, JPS or Rothmans decals fetch higher prices.
- Certain Spark 1:43 are consistently fetching excellent values – Ligier JS5, Brabham BT20
- The Minichamps 2009 Brawn BGP001 is getting rarer and getting good prices (the 1:18 scale Button Brawn BGP001 are now into the USD200+ range).
- Some good resale values for Minichamps 1:18 Lotus 79 Andretti model – now into the USD300+ range (some even $400+).
- The resale prices on the Lauda or Regazonni Exoto 312T2 have clearly shot up because of its rarity.
- The 1974 Fittipaldi McLaren M23 and 1973 Stewart Tyrrell 006 in 1:43 scale are consistently the dearest Minichamps 1:43 models.
Below is my previous published table of higher sales prices in the second half of 2013 in eBay.
* Note 1: Report only includes sales of 1:43 diecasts >US$100 and 1:18 diecasts >US$200. Where final sale price was in non-US currency; estimated US$ value used. Only the highest sale during the reporting period for the same model is shown.
NOTE 2: This table is only provided as a guide at the time of writing. Please check eBay directly for any corrected information.
