I was flicking through Paolo D’Alessio’s Michael Schumacher book the other day to check some decals and aero detail on a 1:43 scale Ferrari F2003GA diecast. This photo book is bound in a similar format to D’Alessio’s other books on Ayrton Senna and Gilles Villeneuve that were later published by Italian publisher Gribaudo. I have the 2004 edition which marks 6 championship seasons but there was a later edition which also included the 2004 season title winning car.
The distinctive padded landscape hardcover contains the usual look and feel of the other Paolo D’Alessio books in this format. The book covers the 6 championship years: 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Around 20 pages are dedicated to each season and also includes D’Alessio’s own hand drawn cutaway drawings of Schumi’s title winning car.
For the 1995 season photos, you can see images of the airbox variant of the B195. A handy reference if you’re also looking at various Minichamps B195 diecasts…
Text is limited to simple English and German captions to the photos and apart from a short list of GP wins at the back, there are no other statistics.
There are plenty of other books on the Ferrari Schumacher era cars so much of the photography here is not exactly unique and there are no photos of some of the more controversial Schumacher races either. So as a photobook biography, the Senna and Villeneuve D’Alessio books in my opinion are much better, maybe because of the greater amount of Schumi/Ferrari photography available by comparison.
Wow Factor or Money Shot: Probably the shots of the Benetton B194 which are less common.
Suitable for: Schumi fans and tifosi.
