Best Niki Lauda Books

best niki lauda books

Niki Lauda was the definitely the superstar F1 driver of the mid 70’s and early 80’s but his career outside of F1 demonstrated that his skills were just as sharp in business and media. Unlike today’s F1 world champions (who can rely on social media), Niki released several of his own books during his career. While the majority of published books on Niki Lauda are non-English in German, Italian and French – my recommended list of best Niki Lauda books below are English books that include many of Niki’s own books.

F1-nut.com recommended Niki Lauda books

1. Niki Lauda – The Biography by Maurice Hamilton; Simon & Schuster (2019) (Reviewed 4 Aug 2020). Accomplished motorsport author, Maurice Hamilton published this book following the passing of Niki in 2019. It covers his full career (racing and post-F1).

2. To Hell and Back by Niki Lauda; Stanley Paul (1976) (Reviewed 26 June 2015). This is Niki’s autobiography circa 1976 and includes the events at Nurburgring and his successful comeback in Niki’s own words. Riveting reading and very personal (even in Niki’s own matter of fact manner). First edition hardcovers of this book still fetch north of $50 (so it’s definitely retained its value). Younger and new F1 fans can pickup a copy of the re-released 2019 paperback edition which includes an updated extra chapter covering his post F1 career with Mercedes AMG.
