Trading card news: Topps releases 2023 F1 Turbo Attax collection
Topps UK have just released the new 2023 season F1 Turbo Attax collection following on from previous years since the 2020 season. From the Topps website, it looks like this is only for Topps UK region at the moment, so non-UK folks will need to wait a few months.
According to Topps, this year’s Turbo Attax set is now over 400 cards (compared to 389 cards in the 2022 Attax set) with limited edition and parallel cards (gold, pink & cyan), digital signature cards for all 20 drivers (these were produced in the 2022 set for the Topps India market) and F1 Legends cards including Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell. There are going to be “ultra-rare” variation cards like Red Bull Racing Edition, Senna Brazilian Yellow Edition and Hamilton Goat Edition. There is also a Max Verstappen “101” card (101% attack and defence rating).
Turbo Attax is Topp’s mainstream cheapest entry level card series with Topps F1 flagship at the next price point higher. Turbo Attax base cards are thin but their limited editions and foil cards are produced on thicker stock cardboard and design wise compare reasonably well with the higher priced Topps F1 flagship cards. UK card collectors have already started posting youtube views of pack breaks and the Turbo Attax limited edition cards definitely are starting looking comparable to the Chrome refractor cards.
Like past seasons, Turbo Attax cards come in a variety of configurations including the standard pack (10 cards), the different coloured mega-tins (66 cards that includes 5 limited edition cards and Ayrton Senna card) and the starter pack (including the card collection insert binder, checklist and random limited edition cards). The launch bundle, giant card pack bundle, mega-tin bundle (w/ gold Carlos card) and limited edition pack bundle (w/ diamond Yuki card) are already sold out on the Topps UK site.
I plan to do a number of review posts on Topps F1 trading cards over the next couple of months so stay tuned.

[Editor comment 11 July: I was right about Nyck! Danny Ric is now back on the grid. Online comments seem to suggest that the signature cards for Attax 2023 are particularly difficult to pull from packs. I’ll be posting a review later this year when the dust settles…]
