During the Xmas break, I managed to read Maurice Hamilton’s recent tribute book on the famous BBC F1 commentator Murray Walker who passed in 2021.

Murray’s own autobiography “Unless I’m Very Much Mistaken” is possibly a more personal read but still with the recollections of many broadcast colleagues that worked with him, Maurice Hamilton’s book is a good companion book. It includes stories from many of his fellow broadcasters and British drivers alike including Damon Hill, Derek Warwick, Nigel Mansell and Sir Jackie Stewart.

Hamilton recounts Murray Walker commentary during famous pivotal moments in F1 history –  Hunt v Lauda at Fuji 1976, Prost v Senna Suzuka 1989, 1986 Aust GP, 1982 Monaco GP, etc.

Being a softcover, this book has the usual 4 centre pages of thumbnail photos. Most of the photos are off track with colleagues.

This book will likely be more appreciated by the older generations of F1 fans that enjoyed Murray’s commentary of F1 in the Prost/Senna, Mansell, Schumacher, Hill era. Newer generation of F1 fans probably won’t get too much of this book.

Wow Factor/money shot: Probably the collection of Murrayisms

Suitable for: British F1 fans and 80’s and 90’s F1 fans (BBC F1 or other syndicated markets)
